Model, yoga instructor, designer, and Instagram sensation Fabian Domenech poses for an exclusive Gay Times shoot, and shares with us the things in his life that make him proud.

As members of the LGBTQ community, there are so many things that define our identities. Whether that’s our friendship circles, our creative passions, our unique sense of style, or even the tattoos that may adorn our bodies.

Model, designer and yoga teacher Fabian Domenech is no different. Here, he shares the six things that make him Proud to be himself.

I’m proud of my mother.

A devoted woman to her three children and husband all her life. Loving, supportive and caring. She epitomises the meaning of unconditional love and she’s fierce. I learnt from her the art of cooking and how to be brave even when you don’t feel it. She’s blonde, just like me, and she never, ever judges any of my crazy goals and plans.

I’m proud of my mistakes.

I’ve learnt so much from them, more than from my successes. If we don’t ever try, we won’t ever know, so it’s good to get out there and fuck it up. Mistakes teach us that we aren’t the centre of everything, they mean we are living, experiencing, growing and learning. It all makes sense in the end, as long as you don’t make the mistake of wearing crocs.

I’m proud of my lifestyle.

My rule of thumb is Mind-Body-Spirit, none can live without the other. Looking after myself is a form of self-respect and one of my top priorities. It all starts with good nutrition, exercise, reading and Joan Collins. It has a big impact on how I feel, how I relate with others, how I sleep and even how I twerk.

I’m proud of my travels.

Two of my bigg™est passions are being outside of my comfort zone and learning, so I found that with travelling I could do both at once. There’s something magical about experiencing a new culture, trying food you can’t even pronounce and meeting amazing people. It just feels good to be lost in the right direction. I’ve travelled always by myself, and at times it feels lonely, but there’s so much to learn from it. I’m also extremely lucky I’m able to work as a yoga teacher and CrossFit coach while travelling.

I’m proud of my friends.

The pillars of my life. The ones that are there for the good and the bad, the gossip and the truth, the laughter and the tears, the werkroom and the catwalk. I cherish friendship like I cherish the air I breathe. Life is always better when we share with the ones we love – and when we eat peanut butter.

I’m proud of my choices.

Most of us are very lucky to have a choice, from the most insignificant detail of what we want to wear today, to what we do with our lives. In order to be authentic when choosing, we have to drop the fears of being judged, of being wrong and the unknown. Two years ago I made the bi™ggest choice of my life so far, leaving everything behind in London and going to see the world with a backpack. And even when I am not very pleased in certain situations, I always remind myself that else’ s it it has been my choice, not somebody else’ s. it has been my choice, not somebody else’s.
