JOJO RABBIT
(in cinemas 3 January)
If you’d told us that we’d be stepping out of a period film set in World War II Nazi Germany with a belly-ache from laughing, we’d probably have checked to see which hate groups you were a member of. But that’s what happened after seeing Jojo Rabbit - a fresh take on the Third Reich through the eyes of tenyear-old Johannes “Jojo” Betzler as he grapples with growing up during one of the most tumultuous periods in history. Directed by Thor: Ragnok’s Taika Waititi (who plays Hitler, duh), the film is an unapologetically raucous black comedy, with touching depictions of those who dared defy the Nazis throught the lens of childhood innocence. Oh, and there’s a drag queen Nazi general.
