The Idle Countryman

Now remembered - if at all - for his children’s books, The Little Grey Men and Down the Bright Stream, BB (the pen-name of Denys Watkins-Pitchford) was anything but a lazy nature-writer. He chronicled the British countryside in the mid-20th century with the keen, ceaseless eye of a falcon. Every one of his rural records is a gem. This diary just happens to be a favourite of mine.
