United Kingdom
The UK is making good progress when it comes to electricity. In 2020, renewable electricity generation in the UK outperformed fossil fuels for the first time, providing 43% of the UK’s electricity versus 38.5% from fossil fuels (the remainder came from nuclear). However, a strong performance in electricity can mask worse results for the overall energy supply, which also takes into account heat and transport. As early as 2016, MPs were warning that the UK was on track to fail to reach its 2020 targets of 10% renewable transport and 12% renewable heat.
