Scrum and get us – puppies named after Wales players

THESE rescue puppies have been named after Wales’ rugby stars, and Rob Howley’s men will be hoping the Staffies can bring them luck ahead of this weekend’s clash against Scotland in Edinburgh.

The four-legged lineup have brilliantly been called Luke Charterrieris, Alun Wyn Bones, Sam Pawburton, Rhodri Bones, Jake Fetch-Ball, and Leigh Halfpuppy.

The team of pooches were brought to The Dogs Trust in Bridgend when they were just two weeks old, after their mum fell ill and became unable to feed them.

According to the home, the eight-week-old Staffordshire Bull Terriers, who all have new homes, will be cheering on Wales at this weekend’s Six Nations match.

Last week, Angela Wetherall, the rehoming centre manager, said: “We have dogs of all shapes at sizes at the centre, and whilst they may not be selected as forwards, props or scrum halves in a rugby line up, they all have one thing in common and that’s to find a winning home.

“We’re delighted that our rugby-loving pups have found themselves new homes and we’re all hoping that our other canine residents can score a home to call their own very soon.”

While the pups have already won the heart of a loving family of their own, there are lots of other homeless hounds still looking for their special someone and hoping for a new owner by the time the Six Nations is over.

The Bridgend home is no stranger to dogs with links to the famous.

David Bowie’s son Duncan Jones recently publicly appealed for someone to give three-year-old lurcher cross Bowie a forever home, after the charity said he had been overlooked by hundreds of people.

It was believed prospective owners visiting the rehoming centre in Bridgend had been put off by Bowie’s different colour eyes, which were similar to the famous singer’s.
