Laleston WI: The Luncheon Club will be on March 14 and the Book Club at Bridgend Library will take place on March 21. The next meeting will be held on March 2, at 7.15pm in Blandy Hall (Laleston Gardening Club)when the guest speaker will be Debra John with her WWI monologue.

Church News: St David’s Day Meal: In order to celebrate St David’s Day we plan to enjoy a benefice meal, prepared by the students, at Seasons Restaurant in Bridgend College.

Dog Fouling: Irresponsi­ble dog owners are not ‘bagging it and binning it’ but continue to allow their animals to foul entrances to drives, footpaths and pavements in the area which most residents agree is filthy and unacceptab­le.

The publicised advert at this festive time of year “a dog is not only for Christmas but for life” includes care and training of a pet so as not to inconvenie­nce other people by expecting them to clean up such fouling in order to prevent serious diseases being spread.

Thursday Evening Lent Course at St Mary’s Church, Nolton, with Bishop David: Upping our Game

A five part Lent course built around the five marks of evangelism in the modern Church.

Each session begins at 7.30pm in St Mary’s and includes a 20 minute talk from Bishop David plus refreshmen­ts and a 20 minute Q&A session.

Mothers’ Union: The 6th Annual Pancake Tea in aid of the Mothers’ Union ‘Make a Mother’s Day’ fund will be held on Tuesday, February 28, from 2.30pm-4pm. Tickets cost £2.50 from Gaynor and Ann. Pancakes and/or raffles will be gratefully received on the day.

Women’s World Day of Prayer: Our participat­ion in this year’s event will take place in St David’s Church, Laleston, at 2pm on Friday, March 3. This year’s service has been written by women from the Philippine­s.

February 24 – Proud to be Welsh will be performed by Harmony and Maesteg Gleemen at the Workmen’s Club in Temple Street at 7pm. Tickets £5 from the 01656 73631, choir members, or the club.

Côr Merched: The choir will be appearing in concert with Côr Meibion Maesteg a’r Cylch on St David’s Day while rehearsing for their concert in Maesteg Town Hall on April 7.

In May it’s off to London to perform at the London Sangerstev­ne. This will include an appearance at Cadogan Hall, Chelsea.

Côr Meibion Maesteg: At Cylch host a St David’s day concert at the Bethel Community Centre on Wednesday, March 1, at 7pm with admission by programme at £5.

Sharing the stage will be Côr Merched Cwn Llynfi (Llynfi Valley Ladies Choir) and Col Canto. The compere for the evening will be Huw Thomas BBC son of well known local doctor Noel Thomas.

The programme for the evening has been very kindly sponsored by Maesteg Motor House.

Young Singer: What a fantastic day it was at Marsteg Town Hall on Saturday, January 28! Participan­ts from all over Wales had been selected to compete in one of three categories - 11-14, 15-18 and seniors making their way in the world of music.

It was the heats for the prestigiou­s Dunraven Welsh Young Singer of the Year and the finals will be held at the hall on Saturday, March 25.

History Society: The Llynfi Valley Historical Society is at 7pm on the first Tuesday of each month at their new venue of St David’s Church (opposite Asda). They meet next on March 7.

Yoga Class: St David’s Church holds weekly ‘seated yoga’ classes, on Mondays from 10.30am11.30am (except bank holidays). £4 per session.

Maesteg WI: We meet on the third Thursday of every month (except August) from 7pm at Maesteg Rugby Club in the upstairs lounge.

Ladies’ Boxfit: The Nantymoel Armature Boxing Club meets every Monday and Wednesday for a Ladies Boxfit.

This is on the following nights from 6pm-7pm with a charge of £4 each.

The club is at Bethania Row, Ogmore Vale but the entrance is at the back on High Street opposite the Non Political Club.

Coffee Morning: Come along to Christchur­ch Chapel Corbett Street, Ogmore Vale, on Thursday, February 23, from 9.30am-10.45am. Free admission. Proceeds to charity. All welcome.

Ladies’ Choir: The Ladies’ choir practice nights have moved to Mondays at Canolfan Bethlehem, Commercial Street, Ogmore Vale. Starting at 7pm. £2, all welcome – over 18 years.

Blackmill Over 50s: Blackmill Over 50s meet at The Local Community Centre on Wednesdays at 7pm, and are always glad to welcome new members.

Nantymoel Knitters Class: Meet twice a week at Dinam Close on Tuesdays and Fridays, 10am12noon.

Wyndham Boys & Girls Club: A St David’s Day Fayre will be held on Tuesday, February 28, from 12 noon-2.30pm. Admission is £4 for a traditiona­l St David’s Day lunch with cawl and fresh bread, salmon sandwiches, selection of cakes, tea and+ coffee.
