Director praises his musical’s youth cast
FOLLOWING on from the success of Bridgend Youth Theatre’s production of West Side Story, the senior members of the renowned theatre company return to perform Fiddler on the Roof.
The award-winning musical, set in pre-revolutionary Russia, follows the life of a Jewish peasant Tevye who is trying to marry off three of his daughters while contending with the growing sense of anti-Semitic sentiment threatening his village.
This wonderful cast and a lavish orchestra, led by Nathan Jones, tell this heartwarming story of fathers and daughters, husbands and wives and the timeless traditions that define faith and family.
The musical features Broadway classics “To Life (L’Chaim!)”, “If I Were a Rich Man”, and “Matchmaker Matchmaker”.
Long-term member of the company, Owen Rhys Evans, will take centre stage for the first time, and will be joined by Olivia Hopper, Phoebe Lewis, Lucy Vinen, Elin Morris, Maddie Dawson and Jasmine Jones.
There will be five performances of the musical at Porthcawl Pavilion from today.
Roger Burnell, the artistic director of Bridgend Youth Theatre and director of Fiddler On The Roof, said: “The cast have, yet again, been fully committed to the adventure.
“Their maturity and determination in rehearsals has been outstanding. We are sure you are in for an emotional yet enjoyable experience.’’
