TREOWEN STARS ......... 1 LLANTWIT MAJOR ...... 4

LLANTWIT Major kept their promotion hopes on the boil in ambushing Treowen Stars at Bush Park, writes Tony Poole.

The Windmillers are fast becoming the side to beat on the circuit and this time the wind in their sails came in the form of steam generated by rocket man Dale Stephenson.

The ex-Penybont hitman ensured that Treowen were catching falling stars for most of the afternoon as did Jamie Miller.

When the sides met at Windmill Lane back in October it was 1-1 with last weekend’s birthday boy Rhys Llewellyn on target.

Beaten just once in 13 league starts, Llantwit Major were bubbly from the outset and the only thing lacking was a goal.

But that was remedied in the 23rd minute when fox in the box Luke Cox sniffed an opening for steaming Stephenson.

He squared the ball to Sammy Snaith who, as cool as a cucumber, ensured the salad days remain in Llantwit Major.

This represented a first goal in club colours for student Snaith and it was also the team’s 50th goal of the season.

The cheers from away fans had hardly died down when a monster Jack Landsdown goal kick eclipsed the Stars.

Quick as a flash, Cox was on to it, laying the ball off for a Stephenson rocket to scorch a bottom corner of the net.

However, early in the second half, Stars briefly shone, halving the deficit in the process, and it remained that way until late on. In the 70th minute, Tom Dante cushioned the ball for Stephenson to rocket on to the magnificent seven-mark for the season.

Soon after, Darren Robinson sniffed out Cox, who outfoxed Stars with an assist for a second Gareth Davies club goal.

However, this Saturday at home to Panteg they will be without foxy Cox, who has a pressing engagement away from football.

Panteg are the only side to down the Windmillers in the league this season, and Karl Lewis’s side will have a point to prove.
