CAERAU ......................... 5 YNYSYGERWN .............. 1

THOMAS Walters knocked in a first Caerau hat-trick as the Riverboaters completed the double over newcomers Ynysygerwn, writes Tony Poole.

An 11th league win from 18 starts with two drawn kept secondplaced Caerau within nine points of STM Sports from the same number of completed games.

Back in the autumn, the Riverboaters triumphed 3-2 at Llandarcy Park but the rematch proved more clear-cut.

In the run up to a first visit from Ynys, Gregory Davies returned to the Caerau fold from the Cape.

And Jack Page was also welcomed back by Riverboat lovers following a brief spell at Division One Afan Lido.

Though Caerau had a 3-0 lead at the turnaround, the best chances fell to the former Neath League club from Aberdulais.

And they seemed to be getting back into the game in the 57th minute once substitute Alex Powell scored with a first touch.

But goals on the hour and in the 83rd minute wrapped up a comfortable home win.

The second goal from Walters is a candidate for Caerau goal-of-theseason with a dainty dink proving much too good for Ynys goalkeeper Richard Powell.

And his sizzling hattrick gave him a sweet 16 goals for the season, resulting in him overtaking his chum and longtime top club scorer Chay Davies.

Walters now heads Chay Davies by a goal but there’s surely a lot more to come in the fierce battle for the Caerau golden boot.

And their two other goals came from recent signings Page and Gregory Davies.

On Saturday, Caerau remain at the Riverboat and this time around the visitors are lowly Cwm Welfare.

Back in October, Caerau won 3-1 at Cwm courtesy of goals from golden boy Dale Price, Chay Davies and Thomas Walters
