CWMAVON .................. 21 MAESTEG CELTIC ...... 24

MAESTEG Celtic gained a bonus-point win in a very scrappy game with both sides unable to gain any fluency.

The Celtic pack once again played with energy and enthusiasm.

Cwmavon opened the scoring with a penalty. Celtic responded quickly when flanker Garin Bowen caught a short lineout and drove for the line. Cwmavon killed the ball and outside half Mathew Harris kicked for the corner. Hooker Ashley Poole found Alex Jones and the Celtic pack drove over the line for Ashley Poole to touch down.

Celtic’s second try came when Mathew Harris made a break and linked with Alex Jones who passed to Oliver Petty. Winger Rhys Fisher came up at pace and ran the ball in for a try in the corner.

Celtic’s third try came early in the second half after fine interplay by three quarters Lee Arthur and Kristian Jenkins.

The ball was moved infield for Robert Golden to charge over under the posts. Mathew Harris converted.

Celtic’s final try came when prop Sean Lambert charged down a clearance kick and Ashley Poole was driven over the line by the pack.

Cwmavon continued to compete bravely and put continued pressure in the Celtic 22 which resulted in a Celtic forward being yellow carded for not rolling away in a tackle.

Further pressure gave them another penalty and another Celtic forward was yellow carded for not retiring 10 metres. Cwmavon then scored a converted try.

In injury time. Cwmavon took a quick throw in on the 10 metre line and ran in a try in the opposite corner to end the game.
