Bypass could ease congestion on road

-

A BYPASS that would ease congestion on busy roads could soon be built.

The proposals would mean an alternative road to the A473, and in the process, alleviate traffic in areas like Llanharan, Llanharry and Brynna.

It is intended to reduce the impact of congestion along the busy A-road, which connects Talbot Green with the M4 Pencoed junction, and runs through busy locations like Llanharan Square.

The new road has long been campaigned for by local councillors and community groups, and will run from the A473 near the Dragon Studios to its section east of Llanharan. The report laying out details of the bypass, as well as how it will be funded, is to be discussed by Rhondda Cynon Taf councillors. Councillor Geraint Hopkins, who represents Llanharan, said: “Along with the community, I have long championed the need for this scheme to be developed to relieve traffic congestion which currently exists through the village.

“This funding will allow the vital work which is required to take place to bring a definitive proposal to fruition.”

According to RCT council, the western part of the road, close to the Dragon Studios and connected to the A473, has already been built, but is still closed to the public.

The new proposals will see that section connected with the A473 east of Llanharan, meaning the new road could be around two miles long in total.
