Laleston Gardening Club: The funeral of Aubrey Howard took place on Monday, February 27 at Coychurch Crematorium.

Aubrey aged 98 was the oldest member of Laleston Gardening Club and had been one of a number of men who had formed the club in 1971.

He was its first Chairman and his funeral was attended by many friends from the Gardening Club. Aubrey would have been well pleased to know that members acted as his coffin bearers at the crematorium.

The officiating Minister Rev Anthony Beer spoke warmly of the contribution that Aubrey had made to the life and times of Laleston Gardening Club and he will be sadly missed by all those who had the pleaaure of knowing him.

Aubrey was a much loved father of Ann and Colin and condolences have been expressed to all members of the family.

After the death of Aubrey, Glan Hathaway is the only surviving founder member of the club.

The club was only just coming to terms with the loss of Aubrey when members were shocked and saddened by the news that Hugh Worgan had passed away in Mayfield Avenue on the evening of February 25.

Hugh was a well known figure in the village and he has made a considerable contribution to the community in which he lived.

He was a respected member of Bethel Baptist Church and had worked tirelessly to raise funds for the maintenace and improvement of Bethel.

Hugh was the husband of the Gardening Club’s President Margaret and together they have done so much for the benefit of the club’s membership.
