Mayor’s Fund Events: Forthcomin­g events include:

March 31 – Resistance to Murder, a hilarious murder mystery play based on the French Resistance in World War II with a prize if you can identify the murderer at the Workingmen’s Club, Maesteg, 7pm. Tickets £8 including a buffet.

Tickets are available for all these events from Maesteg Council offices, Lizzy’s Candy Store, Talbot Street, Maesteg, and at the individual venues and members of the committee. For more details see the Facebook page: Mayor of Maesteg.

Côr Merched: The choir are now rehearsing for their concert in Maesteg Town Hall on April 7.

In May it’s off to London to perform at the London Sangerstev­ne. This will include an appearance at Cadogan Hall, Chelsea.

New members are welcome to join us at rehearsals on Wednesdays, 7pm-9pm at the Catholic Church, Monica Street, Maesteg.

Maesteg Men’s Shed: The men meet on Thursdays from 11.30am-1.30pm with lunch included for a donation. John Gates makes an appeal for all men that are crafters in the Llynfi Valley to join us every Thursday at The Court House.

Another Musical Triumph: A full town hall in Maesteg witnessed an excellent 42nd annual concert by Côr Meibion Maesteg ar Cylch.

A feast of music by the choir and the wonderful, talented soloists made for a very successful evening.

This was the seventeent­h annual concert arranged and conducted by Rhian Jenkins and by the standard of the choirs repertoire shows the hard work and expertise that Rhian brings to the choir who appear to go from strength to strength.

Special thanks must be given to the staff of Maesteg Town Hall who did an excellent job with the lighting and the photograph­ic backdrop to each piece of music.

Finally the choir’s chairman Phillip BevanJones would like to thank every one who came to support the choir it was very much appreciate­d.

Art Society: If you have a talent for drawing/ painting/designing you may like to join this society. They meet at Maesteg College Mondays from 4pm- 6pm and work in a variety of media.

History Society: The Llynfi Valley Historical Society is at 7pm on the first Tuesday of each month at their new venue of St David’s Church (opposite Asda). They meet next on March 7.

Choir News: The following choirs are in the area if you would like to join:

CÔr Meibion Maesteg a’r cylch/Maesteg Male Voice Choir rehearse at the Celtic club on Thursdays and every other Tuesday starting at 7pm-9pm on Thursday with a 15 minute break and 7pm-8.30pm Tuesday with no break.

CÔr Merched Cwm Llynfi, the Llynfi Valley

Rambling Along: Maesteg Ramblers will meet this coming Sunday at 9am for the Neath Valley walk.

Nanty Sport: Llynfi Valley Table Tennis is open Fridays from 6.30pm-9pm, at Maesteg Sports Centre.

Maesteg & Llynfi Valley U3A: The group meets every week at various venues, but on the fourth Tuesday of each month they meet at Central Church Maesteg. Visit www.maestegu3a.org for details.

U3A is a self-help organisati­on for people no longer in full time employment providing educationa­l, creative and leisure opportunit­ies in a friendly environmen­t.

Local U3As are social cooperativ­es which draw upon the knowledge, experience and skills of their own members to organise and provide interest groups.

Wyndham Boys & Girls Club: This year’s Football Presentati­on Night will be on Friday, May 12. Raffle, disco & buffet all for £3 (children £1.50). Tickets from Paul Uppington or the Boys & Girls Club.

Ladies’ Boxfit: The Nantymoel Armature Boxing Club mee ts every Monday and Wednesday for a Ladies Boxfit.

This is on the following nights from 6pm-7pm with a charge of £4 each.

The club is at Bethania Row, Ogmore Vale but the entrance is at the back on High Street opposite the Non Political Club.

St David’s Day: Ogmore Valley Male Voice Choir’s evening – Cawl a Chân – held last Wednesday night for St David’s Day celebratio­ns was a great success.

They would like to thank their special guests Charlotte Jones and Gareth Waite for their great renditions.

Also, a big thank you to everyone that came and supported the evening.

Coffee Morning: Come along to Christchur­ch Chapel Corbett Street, Ogmore Vale, on Thursday, March 30, from 9.30am-10.45am. Free admission. Proceeds to charity. All welcome.
