BRYNCOCH ................. 14 PONTYCYMER ............ 12

PONTYCYMER travelled to the Memorial Field looking to take the scalp of Bryncoch but the Green and Ambers just fell shortnute, Dread-full conditions, the after-math of storm Doris, made the surface a real gluepot and a high scoring game was never on the cards.

The recent success of the Lawrence Park outfit has moved them into the action end of the division. It was Ponty who started the stronger.Young Ieuan Evans caught the eye playing with a maturity beyond his years while James Benbow grafted tirelessly and Dylan Phillips came up with a trademark carrying performance. The first half was an evenly balanced contest with nothing to choose between the two sides. The Garw Valley outfit just led at the interval 6-3 thanks to a brace of penalties from the trusty boot of outside half Tom Davies. The second half was a mirror image of the first with both sides ploughing through the mud with replacement lock Lloyd Webb and flanker Scott Hampton to the fore. With a minute left on the clock, the Lawrence Park side just edged it 12-9 thanks to another penalty and drop goal from pivot Tom Davies, Then came a very bitter pill for Ponty to swallow as the home side crashed over for a very late try to take the spoils, and break the hearts of the Pontycymer faithful. The Manof-the- Match award went to Ponty’s Dylan Phillips for his workmanlike performance.

This Saturday, Pontycymer were due to played Abercrave at Lawrence Park but the game has been postponed till the end of the season.
