Candidates want town to get ‘fair slice’

PORTHCAWL has been ignored for far too long and should get its share of the Bridgend County Borough Council pie.

That is the message from the Porthcawl Independent Candidates Group, as they make their bid for seats ahead of the council elections on May 4.

A spokesman for the group said: “We stand up for Porthcawl to ensure we get a fair slice of the BCBC pie. As the third largest town in the borough we believe Porthcawl has been ignored for too long; the ‘waiting for regeneration’ excuse has contributed to the slow and gradual decay we have all witnessed over the last 30 years.

“It is time now to focus on repair and renewal, and better basic services such as combating littering and dog fouling, recycling, street and pavement repairs and creating a vibrant welcoming environment. Locally we work to ensure that taxes are spent wisely, fairly and for the benefit of Porthcawl.

“We are individuals with differing private views and opinions on a range of traditional ‘political’ matters. None of us are mem- bers of political parties. We do not have political party backing and we do not accept financial support from any organisation, just friends and well wishers, so we can remain independent. We have paid for our campaign materials ourselves.

“Whatever our individual thoughts on things like UK, EU or Welsh governments, when it comes to local matters, we share many common goals, all of which are aimed at creating a better Porthcawl.”

The county council candidates are Norah Clarke, Graham Walter, Brian Jones, Sean Aspey and Mike Clarke.
