OGMORE VALE &

-

WITH second-placed Blaengarw Rugby’s game cancelled and thirdplaced Social sitting out a bye, leaders the Vetz took their chance to open up an 18-point lead at the top by gaining an 8-1 victory at Ogmore Rugby thanks to a 180 from Billy Absalom, a 17-dart pairs leg by Lee Haines and Richard Watkins and a 108 finish from Alwyn Rees.

The only negative for the Vetz was Ogmore’s former county star Dai Gunter sending Dai Astley to the 8-1 club.

The Pant came away from the Colliers with a 6-3 win no further details received.

The other game played on the night was the Blaengarw Hotel hosting Nantymoel Rugby.

The Rug took two pairs through Johnny Clayton and bowling partner Wade Williams also John Collins and skipper Roy Nutt with Dave and Dan Gillett hitting a 16-dart leg to reply for the Blaen.

The same duo also won their singles for the home team.

However, the Rug then won four singles courtesy of Clayton, Collins, Simon Hill and new import Steve Williams to secure a 6-3 win for the visitors.

The big game next week sees the battle of the top two teams – Vetz and Garw Rugby.

It’s sometimes a bit of a cliché to say it’s a mustwin game for the Rugby, however, it’s a must-win game for the Rugby if they are to maintain the chase for the league title.
