PONTYCLUN ................. 4 LLANGYNWYD RANGERS ...................... 1

LLANGYNWYD Rangers now face two cup finals that will decide if they are good enough for a third course on the top table of the Alliance, writes Tony Poole.

After gifting newly crowned champions Pontyclun an opening goal, the Llan Siro boys faced an uphill task during this midweek encounter at Ivor Park.

And Pontyclun – who are returning to the Welsh League after an absence of five years – went on to confirm a 22nd league with three draws in 28 league starts.

Joel Woodington was on target twice for the Ivor Park men with Matthew Trigg and Jimmy Williams their other marksmen.

The only crumb of comfort on the night for the Llan Siro boys came when hungry hunter Lloyd Ham sandwiched a goal between home joy.

Top scorer Ham continues to put meat on the Llan bone, as this was his 15th goal of the season.

This Saturday, they welcome Ton & Gelli Boys Club to the Llan Siro while seven days later Baglan Dragons will be looking to breathe fire in the Llynfi Valley.

Things remain tight at the bottom, and there also remains a question mark against how many teams will drop out of the Premier Division.

Though Barry Town Utd have been promoted to the Welsh Premiership, and no-one is returning to the Welsh League, it’s the bottom of Division Three that concerns Llan.

The only South Wales FA club in trouble is Beddau-based Cwm Welfare – and if they finish in the bottom two places then they will be relegated to the Alliance Premier Division.

That would trigger three clubs dropping out of the Premier Division, but if Cwm survive it will only be two down.
