STEVE Clift took the Senior Section Stableford last week at Coed-y-Mwstwr registerin­g 39 points.

Having won the Senior Turkey Trot event last year, on this occasion Clift set up victory with a two on the fourth hole over the pond.

Arthur Cole also fired 39 points with five pars proving the good news, and no returns on holes four and 12 the not so good news.

Third-placed Tony Lang scored 38 points (seven pars) to finish one point in front of five competitor­s – Glyn Price, dazzling John Dymond, Andrew Cox, Tony Powell and Mal Easterbroo­k.

Three players entered the Sam Bevan snug with par 36 – former Maesteg star Dave Roderick, putting genius Michael Joyce and Dave Holloway.

And of note was D R Stead fighting his way back to form on the strength of a punchy 31 points.

Just one other player managed a two – Peter Ashman holing out for a birdie on the par-three 11th hole.

Last Saturday, Kirk Norris and Jonny Witts had their wits about them in scoring 43 points to win the club’s John Smiths Pairs Fourball Betterball.

Also on the same mark came runners-up Huw Martinson and Elliot Williams along with Rob Jones and Chris Webb.

Fourth-placed Dan Jenkins and Stuart Taylor got 42 points, as did Nigel Phillips and Steve Gillet together with Stephen Hesketh and Paul D Reed.

In a GUW Ladies Team Stableford, Julie Davies stormed to victory with 38 points, including a two on the fourth hole.

Vicky Brooks got 35 points for second spot with Meg Allen on the same mark, and Caroline E Tremlett one point back.

In a correspond­ing midweek competitio­n, Janet Roberts won the day with 39 points from sparkling Sheila Dymond 37, Caroline E Tremlett 34, Gill Osborne 33, Jackie Summerton 32 and Julie Reade 30.
