TREFELIN BOYS CLUB 2 LLANTWIT MAJOR ...... 2

FOR a second time this season, promoted Llantwit Major had to settle for a point against league newcomers Trefelin Boys Club, writes Tony Poole.

It ended goal-less at Windmill Lane in January and at Cwmavon last Saturday, Llantwit Major came from two goals down.

But in all probability, the Windmillers had one eye on a gruelling period, involving four games in eight days.

This cluster of fixtures started to unravel at home to Ely Rangers last night (Tuesday); they host Cwm Welfare tomorrow, travel to Chepstow on Saturday, and visit Ely Rangers a week tonight.

That’s a punishing schedule in anyone’s book and in the Port Talbot suburbs it was the Treefellers who possessed more vim.

They seemed quicker to every loose ball, and deservedly led after eight minutes through a Ceri Williams goal.

The Windmillers thanked their lucky stars to be only a goal down at the break, but the introduction of Kris Smith, Jonny Fletcher and Lee Jones put some wind in their sails.

But the Treefellers went 2-0 up on the hour when a Shaun Barney-Williams back header beat his goalkeeper Ben McCrum.

However, from that point on, it was all Llantwit Major, and fox in the box Luke Cox just missed out with a header.

That was quickly followed in the 80th minute by Cox finding Connor Goldsworthy – and the Treefellers felled the Bridgend College student in the penalty area.

Rob Jones tucked away the penalty – giving him 15 goals for the season – and a dodgy clearance led to the Windmillers levelling.

The ball ran into the path of Goldsworthy, and the ex-Penybont starlet found the net with a vicious 25-metre volley.

Though the Windmillers pressed for a late winner, they were simply relieved to exit Cwmavon with a point in their pockets.

It left Llantwit Major three points shy of leaders STM Sports, but the Windmillers have a massive four games in hand.
