DIVISION ONE
MONMOUTH TOWN ..... 0 PENYBONT .................... 5
PENYBONT blitzed Monmouth Town for a second time this season during this emphatic midweek victory at The Sports Ground, writes Tony Poole.
Back in September, the Bridgend super club downed the Kingfishers to the tune of 6-1 with top scorer Marcus Griffiths hitting the target four times.
Though Marcus Griffiths only got one goal this time, the victory maintained a remarkable goalscoring sequence.
Previously, Bont triumphed 5-1 at fifthplaced Cwmbran Celtic and saw off former champions Caerau Ely to the tune of 5-2.
For the trip to Monmouth, Bont chief Rhys Griffiths handed young Jonny Davies the gloves, as regular goalkeeper Rhys Wilson was suspended.
And 17-year-old Davies marked the occasion with a clean sheet despite injuries making Bont a man light from the 75th minute.
Marcus Griffiths almost scored on 13 minutes, but was unlucky as a shot was pushed wide by goalkeep- er Lee Williams.
Soon after Marcus Griffiths diverted a Josef Hopkins cross just wide and Billy Borge headed over a beefy Kane Owen corner.
But Bont had the lead in the 35th minute when Rhys Griffiths headed home another pinpoint Owen flag kick, and Hopkins made it 2-0 at the turnaround.
Cullen Kinsella and Owain Warlow replaced Borge and Hopkins and in the 63rd minute, Marcus Griffiths got a 20th goal of the season.
Kostya Georgievsky got their fourth (and his fifth for the club) on 72 minutes while his brother Timmy replaced playermanager Griffiths.
But he only lasted a few minutes – an ankle injury led to him coming off - and the 10 men signed off with a 12th goal of the campaign from substitute Kinsella.
