DIVISION TWO

-

TYNTE ROVERS ............ 4 GARW ............................. 2

CHAMPIONS Garw followed massive midweek cup grief in losing to Tynte Rovers at the Glasbrook, writes Tony Poole.

Just three days after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Cardiff Draconians in the league’s WJ Owen Open Cup in Treforest, the Blandy boys got back up on to the horse in the Cynon Valley against another iconic former Welsh League side.

But they certainly didn’t gallop to victory over Tynte, who still possess an outside chance of joining Garw in Division One next winter.

However, it now seems as if Trebanog and Cefn Cribwr are the most likely clubs to follow the Garw bandwagon into a Bridgend orientated Division One next season.

Having shed an unbeaten league tag earlier in the month at Llanrumney United, going down 2-0, the Tynte defeat was a second in the league this season.

Garw opened their league campaign with 21 straight wins and hopes were high that they could go on and win all 28 matches.

The icing on the cake would have been a league and cup double, but considering the club have gone through lean

times of late the Division Two title will do nicely for the 2016/17 campaign.

But a goal-less home draw against low-flying Cardiff Airport earlier in the month grounded the perfect record.

However, to go up as Division Two winners remains a feather in the cap of managers Ryan Blanche and Jeremy Slennett.

Against Tynte the Garw marksmen were Lewis James and Harry Davies, but it wasn’t enough to prevent another league defeat.

They have just two remaining matches both at fortress Blandy – tonight (Wednesday) St Albans are the visitors and on Saturday its bottom club AFC Bargoed.

Meanwhile, the curtain comes down on the season for Garw Reserves tomorrow (Thursday) when they visit their Llanharry counterparts in the Celtic Tyres Bridgend & District League.
