CHRISTINE Evans lifted the Claret Jug at Southerndo­wn last Friday, carding 99-24-75.

Runner-up Julie Davies came in with 108-32-76 with the round containing a two on the seventh hole and Maggie Townrow shot 101-24-77 for third-place honours.

Ali Churchouse went birdie on the sixth green in 90-13-77 and Jenny Jones signed for 111-3477.

Low gross competitio­n round came from sixthplace­d Alaitz Zubikarai (82-4-78) with birdies on holes 11 and 16 complement­ing eight pars.

Earlier, an Extra June Medal event was won by Sian Webb on the strength of 89-18-71 (two on hole 10 and five pars).

Low gross scorer Alaitz Zubikarai went eagle on the eighth; got a two on the seventh and birdied the 13th to set up 76-472, and secure runner-up honours.

Glamorgan County champion Helen Calvert off an away handicap shot 82-6-76 (birdie on 16 and seven pars), and Amy Rees was fourth with 792-77 (birdies 11 and 16 along with eight pars).

Last Saturday, a Captain’s Weekend Yellow Box Stableford event took pride of place with Jonathan Phillips storming to victory with 38 points.

A neat card displayed eight pars and 10 bogeys and he won the competitio­n by a point over Ian D Meredith (four pars).

Three players then matched par with J R Ellis rueing a blob on the par-four eighth; Chris Cadogan got a two on hole 10 and birdied the 16th hole and Robert Board was the other 36-point finisher.

Sixth-place went to B N Radley on 35 points, Gareth Pritchard closed on the same score, and the 34-point mark was hit by six competitor­s – Mike Bull, Daniel Jakeway, Jason Evans, M K Blackman, Gareth Davies and Jamie David.
