TOTAL TRIUMPH CLASSIC

-

LYDIA Hall lost in a playoff to fellow Welshman Sion Bebb (Morlais Castle) during the culmination last Friday of the PGA South-West Total Triumph Classic at Oake Manor Golf Club in Somerset, writes Tony Poole.

Lydia from Pencoed, who plays out of the Hensol Golf Academy, shot rounds of 69 and 64 over two days for a tournament total of 133 blows.

Following a solid opening round, she went to town late on during the final round, shooting an eagle on the par-five 17th hole.

The round also contained six birdies along with nine pars and two bogeys.

She had the clubhouse lead until both Bebb and Ashley Mansell (Clevedon) matched it to force a play-off.

They all gained parfours during the opening extra-hole, but on the next Mansell took a six and dropped out of contention.

And Lydia, who is the Welsh PGA National champion, missed an eight-foot putt for four to extend the play-off.

Bebb was left with a kick in putt for four, and duly sunk it to take the honours.

Earlier, Lydia failed in a bid at the Buckinghamshire to claim a qualifying place in the 72nd US Women’s Open next month at Trump National in New Jersey.

Rounds of 72 and 79 left her tied 24th with Caroline Hedwell (Sweden) the tournament winner on 143 from Carly Booth 143, Kelsey MacDonald 145 (both Scotland) and Meghan McLaren (England) 145.
