HUW Powell shot 83-14- 69 to lift the George White Vase last Saturday at Pyle & Kenfig.

A birdie on the 14th green allied to eight pars got him over the finishing line to take the event by a single shot over Thomas Flint whose 72-2-70 contained a two on hole four; further birdies on five, 13 and 14 together with 10 pars.

Russell Jones fired 798-71 with a birdie on the third hole and 11 pars while Gerwyn Hopkins – son of Lakeside star David – went around in 82-10-72 (birdie on 13 and six pars).

Low gross round came from fifth-placed Matthew Peet with 71+1 = 72 (birdies on five and 11, 14 pars and two bogeys) and on the same mark was G Duncan Jenkins (90-1872).

Nett 73 then came from five players – Jonathan Sinclair 90-17-73, John David 78-5-73 (two on 12 and further birdies on five and 18), Gary Diplock 829-73 (two on six and birdie on nine), Stuart White 8815-73 and Simon Willis 78-5-73.

Meanwhile, final calculatio­ns have been completed surroundin­g the Club Championsh­ip that was contested over 36 holes.

The winner was talented teenager Sean David, who shot nett rounds of 73 and 71 for 144 blows.

Meanwhile, Karen Campbell-Ace came up trumps last week in carding 37 Stableford points to lift the Sunday Trustee Cup.

The highlight was a two on the 12th hole and she also carded three other birdies and six pars to win the competitio­n by a point from Alison Evans (five pars).

Third-placed Fauve Birch birdied the second and home holes and got 12 pars on a par card of 36 points to finish two points in front of her mother Mags.

Alison Hurry was fifth on the 33-point mark with Annette Rhys a further point back.
