Grotto: This year’s Bridgend Lions Santa’s Christmas Grotto was the busiest ever and a total of 451 children visited Santa over the four Saturdays leading up to Christmas. Various events in the town also raised the footfall in Carnegie House by almost 35% .
Bridgend Town Twinning Association: Annual meeting on Thursday, January 18, at 7pm in Carnegie House (former Library) Wyndham Street. Anyone interested is welcome to attend.
The Health and Wellbeing Tai Chi School: is opening Friday evenings, 6.30pm to 8.30pm at the Community Centre, Heol West Plas, Litchard (between the traffic lights near the hospital and the new bypass roundabout. At the side of the football field). There is a fee for two hours of Tai Chi exercise with free tea and biscuits midsession. Free car park. Healthy social exercise for health and self-defence. The school is non-profit and raises donations for the Bridgend charity Mental Health Matters.
Meeting: On December 13, the Townswomen’s Guild held their Christmas meeting. There was carol singing and three short readings from the Bible concerning the Nativity, also two short readings by members , one very funny and the other a nostalgic poem about past Christmases. The ladies then enjoyed their Christmas tea on beautiful decorated tables. The Townswomen’s Guild meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month in Hope Church Institute, Derwen Road. Bridgend Branch of the Family History Society: The next meeting of Bridgend Branch of the Family History Society will be held in the Len Evans Centre, Heol Persondy, Aberkenfig, on Monday January 15 at 7.30pm. A Social and Quiz evening is planned for the evening.
Service: Friday, January 12, Paul Young from Maesteg will lead the 3pm Hospital Christian Fellowship Service in the hospital chapel at the Princess of Wales Hospital. All welcome.
BAVO: A day of pre booked appointments has been organised by Bridgend Association of Voluntary Organisations (Bavo) in collaboration with BBC Children in Need on Wednesday, January 31, for voluntary groups and organisations between 2 and 5pm. Open to voluntary and community groups serving Bridgend County Borough that work with disadvantaged children and young people. Thirty minute appointments will be available with James Bird, a BBC Children in Need grants officer, to discuss the eligibility and potential of a project proposal. BBC Children in Need supports stable, well-managed and effective organisations that work with disadvantaged children and young people aged 18 years and under living in the UK. Disadvantaged children Places are limited. To apply for an appointment please forward an outline of your project proposal (no more than one side of A4), preferably by e-mail, to bavo@bavo.org.ok by no later than Wednesday January 24.
