Porthcawl Christmas Window Competitio­n: What an excellent selection of Christmas window displays! The judging panel, which included Town Mayor Cllr Lorrie Desmond-Williams and representa­tives of the Chamber of Trade, decided on the following: First Prize: The Beach Locker in John Street; second prize: Age Cymru in John Street; third prize: Guttridge’s Flower Shop in John Street. The following premises were then classed as highly recommende­d: The Y-Centre, Traveland in Lias Road; Porthcawl Butchers in the top end of John Street; Tenovus; and, finally, The Print Centre in Lias Road won a prize as the Most Original.

Porthcawl Museum And Historic Society: Congratula­tions to Ceri and Paul and the Management Committee for having achieved charitable status for the museum, and now being in a position where they are able to discuss purchase of the property from BCBC. Although this is great news, it comes at a time when they have to finance the removal of asbestos and the rewiring of certain elements of the building – fund-raising is therefore of the essence. On the subject of fund raising, please note that the first of the 2018 series of popular Museum Lectures will be held on Tuesday, January 16, at 7pm in the Y-Centre. The lecture is by local geologist/engineer Tony Stradling and is entitled The Geology of the Heritage Coast. Tickets, which are available in the Museum or at the door, are £1 for visitors while there is no charge for members.

Porthcawl Rabbie Burns Night Supper: Porthcawl Lions Club are again arranging this function in the Hi-Tide in Mackworth Road on Friday, January 26.
