KEV KICKS OFF

- With Kevin Ellis

I HOPE all the Gazette readers had a fantastic Christmas, and a Happy New Year to you all.

I see Gavin Henson has publicly apologised for a bad performance against Cardiff Blues hence he was dropped for their home game against the Ospreys. Henson was off his game especially in defence where he’s been strong in the past. He’s been honest with his apology but he’s got to accept he’s getting older and the game is getting more physical, especially in defence. It’s starting to go like rugby league where it’s hard to break through the defensive line. I’m sure the Dragons will recall Henson soon as you can see by their recent games they lack creativity.

I have got to say the Dragons franchise needs to be scrapped and the WRU need to put the money into grassroots rugby. The Dragons players were clueless against the Scarlets and I feel sorry for Hallam Amos and not picking Gav Henson says it all. They have got an Irishman in charge who I’ve never heared of and I’m not sure who is assisting him. I think Ross Moriarty needs to have a rethink about going there unless they have a full clean out. Let’s see what 2018 brings!

It was good to see Rhys Webb and Dan Biggar back on top form with European games coming up and the Six Nations only a month away. The Ospreys beat Cardiff Blues 29-28 in front of a disappointing crowd of just over 7,000 which is not good for a Welsh derby but I’m sure Ospreys were happy with the win as the Blues came back strongly.

Congratulations to Sam Warburton on his OBE in the honours list. I’m sure it’s for his captaincy and performances for the British and Irish Lions in their drawn series against the mighty All Blacks.

Question: Do you think Scarlets flanker James Davies will be picked for the Six Nations?

Yes, I do if the coaches are going to pick players on form. He and Josh Navidi are first on the sheet for the back row especially with Warburton, Faletau, Lydiate and possibly Moriarty out. Tipuric is starting to show bit of form again but James Davies has been outstanding for a while now.
