COGAN CORONATION 2 PORTHCAWL TOWN .... 0

THIS defeat at Cogan Coronation formed a setback for Porthcawl Town following an improved display last time out at Trebanog, writes Tony Poole.

After pulling off a 1-1 draw against high-flying Trebanog at the Coliseum the previous week, it seemed as if the Seasiders were back to the form that made them early season promotion favourites.

But that sentiment went up in a puff of smoke against a determined Cogan side looking to make amends for a 3-2 defeat at Lock’s Lane in the run up to Christmas.

They took the lead midway through the opening half from an arguably offside position with Mark Hussey lifting the ball over big Brad Robinson in the Porthcawl goal.

And things got distinctly worse for the Seasiders when they failed to clear their lines properly, and from the edge of the box it became 2-0.

But with the damage having been done, Porthcawl went on to dominate the second half without lacking the killer touch in front of goal to get back into the frame.

Cards were handed out like confetti, and it was a minor miracle that no player got two of them to exit for an early shower.

And with the Seasiders getting little joy out of a well marshalled defence, they now possess an unenviable record of having carded just one league win in their last eight outings.

Next up is only a third home league game in 2018 with Tonyrefail Boys Club visiting Lock’s Lane this Saturday.

The sides have already met in the reverse league match back on December 16 with Porthcawl sliding to a 2-1 defeat.

But with their season in danger of falling apart at the seams, the Seasiders will be desperate to record a much-needed win.

Another home league fixture follows for Porthcawl on Saturday week with Aber Valley visiting Lock’s Lane.
