CELTIC TYRES BRIDGEND & DISTRICT LEAGUE
SARN .............................. 1 MAESTEG PARK ........... 1
UNBEATEN Premier League leaders Maesteg Park dropped points for only a second time this season during this top-ofthe-table encounter with Sarn on the 3G surface at Y Dderwen Comprehensive School in Ynysawdre, writes Tony Poole.
Brackla had previously played out a stalemate with the Tudor Park side, and this time Park squandered a 1-0-interval-lead.
In cold conditions, this was always going to be a tight contest with Sarn requiring all three points to really push the Llynfi Valley side for league honours.
Chances came at both ends during the first half with Park having a shot cleared off the goal-line, and Sarn clipping the cross bar.
But it was the league leaders who made the breakthrough in the 32nd minute, following a contentious challenge in the build up.
Play was allowed to continue, and nippy Jack Lewis rolled the ball into an unprotected net.
Park led by a goal to nil at the break and more thrills and spills unfolded during a lively second period
Sarn levelled in the 62nd minute following a superb run and equally fine finish from Joshua Fraser.
That left proceedings on a knife-edge with a big Maesteg contingent on two occasions feel- ing their heroes were on the way to all three points.
Neath cricket star Steffan Roberts saw a shot hacked off the goal-line while close to time Stanley Collins saw his effort strike the goalkeeper without him knowing too much about it.
A second draw has left Maesteg Park on 44 points from 16 games; Sarn have got 38 points in 17 completed matches while Llangeinor from 14 fixtures have accumulated 37 points.
Maesteg Park have six more games to hold things together with five being staged at Tudor Park.
The Llynfi Valley side host Red Valley on Saturday while a week tonight (Wednesday) they entertain Caerau All Whites.
