PUPILS from two Bridgend schools have hosted students visiting from Bridgend’s twin town in France.

Brynteg and Bryntirion school pupils recently hosted 16 students from Villenave d’Ornon, who toured popular attractions across South Wales.

After spending the first weekend with their host families, the students travelled to Cardiff where they explored the city and toured the Principality Stadium.

Bridgend Town Twinning Association and staff from both schools thanked local families for hosting these students.

They said: “At a time when modern languages are often being phased from our schools, isn’t it refreshing to know that Bridgend has a close link with our twin towns in Europe?

“These links enable our young people to make, and hopefully keep, friends from other countries with different cultures.”

The group also visited Margam Park and gave a presentation to local students.

Other visits included a tour along the coastline, where they explored the remains of Dunraven and Ogmore castles, and a trip to the Museum of Welsh Life at St Fagans.

The Bridgend Town Twinning Association said it was now looking forward to welcoming a group from Hechtel-Eksel in Belgium and in May the Chorale du Lac, a choir from Villenave d’Ornon, will be spending a few days in Bridgend.

During their stay they will be joining Tabernacle Choir and Trelales Primary School for a concert at the Tabernacle Chapel on Derwen Road on Friday, May 18 at 7pm.

The choir will also perform on Monday, May 21 at 7pm at the All Saints Church in Porthcawl.
