PONTARDAWE TOWN .. 1 LLANTWIT MAJOR ...... 1

ONCE the final table is compiled next month, this point at Pontardawe Town might be the one that pushes Llantwit Major into the top flight, writes Tony Poole.

And it came via a real sting in the tail with Shaun Barney-Williams nodding on a long throw-in from Jonny Butler.

It ran towards Glyndwr Davies who helped the ball go in with assistance from the far post.

But this isolated 88thminute incident was in stark contrast to the remainder of a dire contest in the Swansea Valley.

However, it was of paramount importance that the Windmillers got something out of the game going into two matches that will in all probability define their season.

This Saturday, Llantwit Major entertain Pontypridd Town while on Tuesday night they travel to another of their promotion rivals in Garden Village.

A new date for the home clash with leaders STM Sports has also been announced, and it’s set to be the final game on May 22.

But ahead of that another month of intense football awaits them and at Pontardawe last Saturday the Windmillers pressed early on with Rob Jones nearly getting on the end of a Butler cross.

But it was Ponty who got their noses in front, as the visitors failed to snuff out neat approach work from Callum Poland and Corey Saunders with Joshua Roberts netting.

His 30th-minute strike separated the sides at half time and manager Karl Lewis then sent on Lee Jones and Kristian Smith.

The best Llantwit Major chance to level came just past the hour when Rob Jones failed to convert a Barney assist.

Anthony Rawlings shot across the face of goal; a Barney header produced a miracle save while Rhys Llewellyn shot over.

But the Glyndwr Davies goal – only his second of the season and a first since the 3-0 win at AFC Porth back in November – brought a point back to Windmill Lane.
