Store staff raise £3,000 for char­ity

TESCO staff from Brid­gend raised £3,000 for Cancer Re­search UK’s Race for Life.

This year, 136 col­leagues from stores and dis­tri­bu­tion cen­tres across the city joined women from across the UK to take part in this year’s Race for Life events.

Race for Life is a se­ries of women-only 5k, 10k and Pretty Muddy events which raises mil­lions of pounds ev­ery year for vi­tal re­search in the fight against cancer.

Since 2002 Tesco has raised over £45m to help fund Cancer Re­search UK’s vi­tal work. Money raised through Race for Life helps Cancer Re­search UK to fund long-term re­search and pi­o­neer­ing tri­als, lead­ing to new tests and kinder treat­ments.

Cancer sur­vival in the UK has dou­bled since the early 1970s and Cancer Re­search UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress.

Emily Smith, head of events mar­ket­ing at Cancer Re­search UK said at Cancer Re­search UK said: “Ev­ery year, we’re stag­gered by peo­ple’s gen­eros­ity in giv­ing their time and money to this event and we’re grate­ful to every­one who took part or do­nated.

“Race for Life brings to­gether thou­sands of women from across the coun­try and your sup­port will go a long way to­wards help­ing us end cancer.”

Alec Brown, head of com­mu­nity at Tesco said: “Ev­ery year, it is in­spir­ing to see as our col­leagues and customers alike go above and be­yond for this fan­tas­tic cause.”
