Search to start for new chief

BRID­GEND coun­cil will be­gin re­cruit­ing for a new chief ex­ec­u­tive and a fi­nance di­rec­tor in the new year.

The lo­cal au­thor­ity’s chief ex­ec­u­tive Dar­ren Mepham is leav­ing in early 2019 af­ter six years.

He has ac­cepted a new role as chief ex­ec­u­tive for Bar­net and South­gate Col­lege in North Lon­don.

Speak­ing at a full coun­cil meet­ing on Wed­nes­day Novem­ber 21, coun­cil leader Huw David said: “In the New Year we will be ad­ver­tis­ing na­tion­ally for a per­ma­nent chief ex­ec­u­tive as this is the best time of year to re­cruit for a se­nior man­ager in the pub­lic sec­tor.

“Our very ex­pe­ri­enced sec­tion 151 fi­nance of­fi­cer is only here on an in­terim ba­sis un­til the end of the year and there­fore at the same time we will also be tak­ing the op­por­tu­nity to re­cruit a per­ma­nent sec­tion 151 of­fi­cer.

“Mem­bers will be fully in­volved in the process through our cross party ap­point­ments com­mit­tee and also for the ap­point­ment of the per­ma­nent chief ex­ec­u­tive.

“All mem­bers will make the fi­nal de­ci­sions through full coun­cil.”

“In the mean time we have in­vited ex­pres­sions of in­ter­est from di­rec­tors to un­der­take the chief ex­ec­u­tive role on an in­terim ba­sis.

“The ap­point­ments com­mit­tee will meet on De­cem­ber 6 where we will also be con­sid­er­ing in­terim ar­range­ments for the sec­tion 151 of­fi­cer role and mem­bers will kept in­formed through­out the process.”
