Search to start for new chief
BRIDGEND council will begin recruiting for a new chief executive and a finance director in the new year.
The local authority’s chief executive Darren Mepham is leaving in early 2019 after six years.
He has accepted a new role as chief executive for Barnet and Southgate College in North London.
Speaking at a full council meeting on Wednesday November 21, council leader Huw David said: “In the New Year we will be advertising nationally for a permanent chief executive as this is the best time of year to recruit for a senior manager in the public sector.
“Our very experienced section 151 finance officer is only here on an interim basis until the end of the year and therefore at the same time we will also be taking the opportunity to recruit a permanent section 151 officer.
“Members will be fully involved in the process through our cross party appointments committee and also for the appointment of the permanent chief executive.
“All members will make the final decisions through full council.”
“In the mean time we have invited expressions of interest from directors to undertake the chief executive role on an interim basis.
“The appointments committee will meet on December 6 where we will also be considering interim arrangements for the section 151 officer role and members will kept informed throughout the process.”
