Group set up to assess Brexit risks and repercussions
BRIDGEND County Borough Council has set up a group looking into the risks around the possible repercussions of Brexit.
At a full council meeting on Wednesday November 21, council leader Huw David said the local au- thority had recently met with officials from the Home Office.
Answering a question from Councillor JonPaul Blundell on how the council was preparing for Brexit, Councillor David said: “We have been advised there is a possibility, in the worst case scenario, that there may be shortages of medicine and an issue with food supplies.
“It’s something we have started to work with the UK Government on but the advice has come quite late in the day.
“Obviously, we will be looking at this very closely to ensure we are as ready as we can be as a county borough council.”
Cabinet member for communities Richard Young added: “We have also set up a Brexit group which is now looking at risks associated to this authority and the best ways we can mitigate those risks.
“We are thinking about the risks we can influence and the risks we can’t influence but will have to respond to – the authority is not sitting on its laurels, it’s looking to see what we need to put in place to make sure we mitigate any adverse impacts.”
