Christmas Family Disco: Pontycymer Rugby Club have just announced that their annual family Christmas disco will be on Sunday, December 23, from 3pm-6pm, at their clubhouse in Oxford Street. Entry is £1 an adult with children free, and, even though it’s his busiest time of year, there will be a special visit from Santa himself.
Boxing Day Game: Now in its 17th year, the annual Boxing Day, Jimmy Walker Memorial match, between Pontycymer RFC and Llangeinor AFC, will be at Lawrence Park, Pontycymer, on Wednesday, December 26 at 11am.
SWFA Cup: Stanley Town 2 – Garw 4. Recently, Garw travelled to Tylorstown recreation ground for their SWFA senior cup second round tie. The home side won this competition back in the 2002/03 season, and so were looking for a major scalp with Garw playing two divisions above them.
Garw opened the score sheet at the 15 minute mark, with Lewis James going on a trade mark mazy run and firing the ball into the left hand corner. The home side came from behind, making it 1-1 in the 25th minute, and then 2 mins later they went 2-1 up. Just before halftime, Rhys Jordan headed the ball into the net, making it 2-2, and the game was on again.
The second half was one way traffic, Lewis James completing a fantastic brace of goals and Shaun Williams making certain of a Garw Valley victory with an outstanding free kick.
