Christ­mas Fam­ily Disco: Pon­ty­cymer Rugby Club have just an­nounced that their an­nual fam­ily Christ­mas disco will be on Sun­day, De­cem­ber 23, from 3pm-6pm, at their club­house in Ox­ford Street. En­try is £1 an adult with chil­dren free, and, even though it’s his busiest time of year, there will be a spe­cial visit from Santa him­self.

Box­ing Day Game: Now in its 17th year, the an­nual Box­ing Day, Jimmy Walker Memo­rial match, be­tween Pon­ty­cymer RFC and Llangeinor AFC, will be at Lawrence Park, Pon­ty­cymer, on Wed­nes­day, De­cem­ber 26 at 11am.

SWFA Cup: Stan­ley Town 2 – Garw 4. Re­cently, Garw trav­elled to Ty­lorstown recre­ation ground for their SWFA se­nior cup sec­ond round tie. The home side won this com­pe­ti­tion back in the 2002/03 sea­son, and so were look­ing for a ma­jor scalp with Garw play­ing two di­vi­sions above them.

Garw opened the score sheet at the 15 minute mark, with Lewis James go­ing on a trade mark mazy run and fir­ing the ball into the left hand cor­ner. The home side came from be­hind, mak­ing it 1-1 in the 25th minute, and then 2 mins later they went 2-1 up. Just be­fore half­time, Rhys Jor­dan headed the ball into the net, mak­ing it 2-2, and the game was on again.

The sec­ond half was one way traf­fic, Lewis James com­plet­ing a fan­tas­tic brace of goals and Shaun Wil­liams mak­ing cer­tain of a Garw Val­ley vic­tory with an out­stand­ing free kick.
