Nurse wins care award

AN EX­PE­RI­ENCED nurse has been recog­nised for her kind­ness and com­pas­sion for care home res­i­dents.

For­mer hospi­tal nurse Ruth Smithers, 55, has been praised for her at­ten­tion to de­tail and com­mit­ment to main­tain­ing the best and most up to date prac­tices since tak­ing the clin­i­cal lead post at Bro­cas­tle Manor Care Home in Brid­gend in 2015.

Ruth won the In­de­pen­dent Sec­tor Nurse of the Year Award cat­e­gory, sponsored by On­tex Health­care, at the 15th an­nual Wales Care Awards at City Hall in Cardiff.

Ruth, who lives in Tre­de­gar, said: “I was shocked, I wasn’t ex­pect­ing that. It’s lovely and also great for Hafod Care As­so­ci­a­tion and the team here.”
