Christmas starts with a bang as town celebrates

SINGING in the rain... it’s what the large crowd did when they attended the annual advent service in Maesteg last weekend.

The Blessing of the Crib, which is placed outside the council offices, went ahead despite the rain with the service led by Tony Mullins, who is this year’s chairman of Llynfi Valley Council of Churches.

After the prayers came the carols and some people stopped to join in, while others passing by walked along singing, everyone getting into the Christmas spirit.

St Mary’s and St Patrick’s schools performed a selection of carols accompanie­d by Eddie Scourfield on the guitar.
