WE MUST BE MORE CONSISTENT, SAYS SILVA

-

BRIDGEND head coach Matt Silva insists his side must become more consistent if they are to retain their Principality Premiership status.

The Ravens were comprehensively beaten by RGC 1404 at Stadiwm Zip World in Colwyn Bay on Saturday. And Silva believes they only have themselves to blame.

“It wasn’t down to a lack of effort or commitment from the boys, we lost because we made far too many errors,” he said.

“It wasn’t just that we were making errors. We were making them at critical moments of the game. Most people will look at the score and think we got stuffed, but that wasn’t the case.

“We’ve had some very good results recently in beating Aberavon and putting more than 70 points on Neath, but we have to stop being so inconsistent if we are going to stay in this league.”

A brace of tries from Danny Cross plus tries from Efan Jones, Evan Yardley and Cam Davies was enough to see off the Ravens.

Former Wales Under-20s outsidehalf Billy McBryde contributed 11 points from the tee to condemn Bridgend to their first defeat in three games.

After an early penalty from Cai Evans, it was the hosts who grabbed the first try with Cross finishing a terrific team score which was started after a powerful surge by Karl Martin.

Mark Jones’s side were superior in every aspect, with Cross the beneficiary of a superb break and offload from Mei Parry for their second try to give them a 17-3 half-time lead.

RGC turned the screw in the second half with scrum-half Jones crossing off the back of a dominant scrum, with Yardley securing the bonus point after a powerful driving lineout.

Davies crossed for RGC’s fifth try, while Jamie Murphy and Connor Tantum scored second-half tries for the Ravens.

“I am very pleased with this perfor- mance and the victory after a disappointing outing against Swansea,” said RGC head coach Mark Jones.

“We were physically a lot stronger and I felt we dominated the driving line-outs, while our scrum was also on top. Hopefully we can take this intensity into next week.”
