Interim chief takes over

THE communities director at Bridgend County Borough Council (BCBC) is to become the interim chief executive of the local authority.

Mark Shephard will take over the leadership on an interim basis when Darren Mepham leaves.

Mr Mepham who joined BCBC as chief executive six years ago is taking on a new role as chief executive for Barnet and Southgate College in North London.

At a council meeting in November council leader Huw David said the local authority would be advertising nationally for a permanent chief executive in the New Year as this was “the best time of year” to recruit a senior manager in the public sector.

Mr Shephard’s first day as the interim chief executive was on Monday.

He was appointed to the role at a full council meeting on December 19.
