Family History: The next meeting of the Bridgend Branch of the Glamorgan Family History Society is on Monday, August 19 at the Len Evans Centre,off Heol Persondy, Aberkenfig, CF32 9RF.

The Society is holding a Family History Research Evening – bring your “Brickwalls”.

Doors open 7pm. All welcome, refreshmen­ts available.

Aberkenfig Allotment: The Aberkenfig Allotment Associatio­n hold its Annual Horticultu­re Show on Monday, August 26 at the Len Evans Centre, Aberkenfig.

Everyone is invited to attend the show which will include a BBQ, raffle and auction of allotment produce from 1pm.

Any entries for Produce, Bakery or Flower categories need to be registered between 9.30am and 11am. Each entry costs 20p. Aberkenfig Bowls Club: The week started with a heavy defeat at the hands of Croeserw, away from home, in the Port Talbot Triples League, where we lost by 67 shots to 39.

Croeserw thus gained revenge for a opposite score line when the sides met at Aberkenfig earlier in the season.

The two points gained from this match dropped Aberkenfig to third place in the table three points behind Bridgend Municipal but with a game in hand.

The club bounced back, the following night, beating Bridgend Tennis Club, again away from home, on all four rinks with a final score of 96 to 41 securing all 14 points in the Rockwool Triples League and maintainin­g their lead in the league table.
