Condolence­s: Sincere condolence­s to Claire Jones of Broadlands who lost her lovely partner Chris Smith (Smithy) in a tragic accident on July 5.

In his memory a Just Giving page has been set up for anyone wishing to donate to his favourite three charities: Welsh Air Ambulance (who attended the day of his accident); Blood Bikes (whom he was hoping to join soon as he had recently passed his advanced tests to join) and also Mental Health Matters Wales which he was passionate about.

70s Night At Bryntirion: Bridgend Hospital Radio presents Party Like its 1970 at Pen-y-Bont F.C. CF31 4JU ( Bryntirion Playing Fields) which will comprise of a Themed Quiz, Fun and Disco Fundraiser on Saturday, September 14.

The fun evening begins at 7pm and admission is £5 per person by ticket only. Quiz entry and buffet is included in the cost.

Valley Ravens RFC: Mini & Junior rugby training is already underway for the coming 2019/20 season, with high numbers in attendance at various age groups, if any child is interested in joining the Valley Ravens, training is every Wednesday, under 6s & 9s is at Ogmore Park, under 13s at the Planka Playing Fields, both start time 6pm.

Bridgend Quiz League: Is inviting teams and individual­s to attend a social evening on Monday, September 2 at 8pm for a free General Knowledge quiz followed by a free buffet at Tondu Railway Club, Station Approach, Tondu, CF32 9DY.

If you are a quizzer with three or four likeminded friends, able to form a team within a pub/ club in Bridgend County Borough and available on Monday nights between late September and April, you are also invited to register for the 2019 / 20 season.

Entry for the whole season is £40 a team, approx 40p a person per quiz.

Coffee Morning: Coffee morning at Christchur­ch Chapel Corbett Street, Ogmore Vale on Thursday, August 29, with a cake stall, book stall, china and clothes stalls and not forgetting a raffle etc.

It will be from 9.30am10.45am. So why not join them for a coffee and its free admission to. All welcome.

Blackmill Over-50s: Blackmill Over-50s meet at the Local Community Centre on Wednesday evenings at 7pm, always glad to welcome new members.

This is a social gathering and occasional­ly a trip to the theatre or a meal out is arranged.

Nantymoel Knitters Class: We are members of a Knitting Club who live in Nantymoel.

We meet twice a week at Dinam Close every Tuesday and Friday from 10am-noon.

We are always looking for new members and all our efforts are to make things for charity.

If there is anyone who has any spare wool they do not want, we would be very grateful to receive it. Many thanks from all the knitting club members

Café News: Just would like to which Mandy from Lite Bite Cafe and Rob from the Wyndham Pub all the best in their new ventures of opening Mr Big Bite the new cafe in the high street of Ogmore Vale and hopefully will be opening at the end of July.

Smyrna Chapel Services: A traditiona­l Sunday school service in Smyrna Chapel, Penyfai, always starts at 10.30am and the evening services take place in Smyrna Chapel starting at 6pm.

There is a coffee morning every Tuesday in the Smyrna Chapel vestry from 10am-12noon where stalls of produce are also on offer.

Bible studies take place on Thursdays at 7.15pm and are led by Marlyn James and Dorothy Evans.

Newcomers are always welcome.

Community Council: The Newcastle Higher Community Councillor­s with residents are very concerned about the significan­t flooding following the recent and continuing heavy rainfall after excavation work done by Pennant Homes and Morgan Stone developers.

Jonathan Parsons planning officer Bridgend County Borough Council has been informed, Cllr Malcom John is keeping the Newcastle Higher Community Councillor­s informed who are on holiday as well as the Bridgend County Borough Ward members for Penyfai and Aberkenfig.

Residents living very close to the developmen­t site are very concerned that this is the start of more problems with this parcel of land, as the summer months are ending and more heavy rain will return.

Full reports will be given at the September 3 meeting starting at 7pm in the Penyfai Church in Wales School.

Penyfai Fun Day: Penyfai Fun Day on Saturday, September 7 from 1pm5pm in the field next to the Pheasant Public House.

Porthcawl Farmers and Artisans Market, CF36 5DN: The next Farmers Market will be held in Griffin Park Community Hall on Saturday, September 28, from 9.30am-12.30pm.

Porthcawl Veterans Hub: Don’t forget that the new Porthcawl based Veteran’s Hub offers a NAAFI Break on Saturday mornings in the Wellbeing Centre adjacent to the tennis courts at Griffin Park where veterans can meet with other veterans, raise their problems and get advice.

Nottage Unitarian Chapel: The Unitarian Chapel in Ty Canol Nottage which reputably is the oldest non-conformist cause in the area and dates back to a time before 1789, holds a Friday Club which starts off with a period of meditation from 10.30am-11am every Friday and then this is followed by Coffee and a Chat which finishes around 12noon. Everyone is welcome.

Cream Tea In Aid Of Latch And Sandville Self Help Centre: A Cream Tea in aid of Latch and Sandville SHC has been arranged in All Saints Church in Victoria Avenue Porthcawl on Sunday, September 1 starting at 3pm.

Tickets are £10 and there will be a mini-bar, light entertainm­ent and a raffle.

Let’s Dance: This is what the Hi-Tide in Mackworth Road have called the Charity Night they are presenting in the marquee on Saturday, September 21.

There will be multiAward winning Artists plus a fantastic Support Artist.

Tickets are £20 from the Hi-Tide which includes a meal and GTFM 107.9FM Roadshow Disco and all proceeds are going to Alzheimer’s, Ronald McDonald and Sandville S.H. Tickets and more details from the Hi-Tide.

Its Ok To Talk: Andy’s Man Club is a registered charity which provides a peer to peer support group for men with the aim of cutting the tragic number of suicides of young men.

A lot of these cases might be avoided if people only had an opportunit­y to talk to others who could understand what they were going through.

Well the opportunit­y does exist here in Porthcawl with a group meeting in Porthcawl RFC off South Road (CF36 3DA) every Monday evening (Except Bank Holidays).

Gilgal Baptist Church Park Avenue: The members and friends of Gilgal Chapel have been involved for many years with another organisati­on named The Samaritan’s Purse in providing toys and gifts for Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes with members knitting hats, scarves, puppets and bags etc as well as donating toiletries.

This year however, due to import restrictio­ns sweets and toothpaste can no longer be included amongst the gifts.

Gilgal would like to thank everyone who contribute­s to this scheme for their efforts and gifts of filled pencil cases and stationery as well as cuddly toys to ensure that every child gets a present to help make their Christmas special.
