- CHRIS RUSSON newsdesk@walesonline.co.uk

THE Skoda Superb iV plug-in hybrid will become the Czech brand’s first electrified car when it goes on sale in the UK in January next year and will be priced from £31,970.

With a zero emission range of up to 35 miles, the line up will top out from £38,905 for high specification Laurin and Klement models.

Estates will also be included in the Superb PHEV range with prices running from £33,195 to £40,185.

The car uses a 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine and an 85kW electric motor with a combined power output of 218ps and emissions as low as 35g/km which equates to an overall fuel economy of more than 180mpg.

Skoda says in real world conditions the Superb iV plug-in hybrid has a range of 578 miles on a single tank and a fully charged battery when driven in hybrid mode.

There is also an E-mode for electric and hybrid drive and Sport mode, which delivers maximum system performance.

Recharging takes some three-and-a-half hours from a home charging point.

In hybrid driving modes, the car’s onboard display will show the electric range available as well as the potential range if the auxiliary applications in the vehicle such as heated seats and the air conditioning are turned off

Full performance data for the PHEV model is still to be released.

On all but the basic SE and SE L trim levels the Superb hybrid comes with Skoda’s virtual cockpit as standard which features a customisable 10.25-inch display to replace the traditional dials behind the steering wheel.
