Online championships will have international flavour
KAPITOL Cory Online Championships has an international flavour and has been dubbed the ‘Battle of the Regions’.
It will take place online over three weekends February 19-20, February 2627, and March 5-7.
Cory are being supported by a number of bodies with Kapitol being the main sponsor.
Philip Morris, Kapitol director, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Cory on this innovative project the primary aim of which is to keep bands playing through the pandemic.
“With the enforced cancellations of the Regional Championships for 2021, Kapitol Promotions is keen to be able to continue to support the movement at its various levels, after the incredible success of Cory’s first online competition, which we also supported, we are very pleased to be the main sponsor this time”.
Other sponsors are UniBrass Foundation, World of Brass, Besson Musical Instruments, Wright & Round Music Publishers and Thurrock Marching Brass.
The Best New Composition or Arrangement Award is sponsored by Jonny Bales Music. Support was also received from Arts Council Wales.
On Friday, February 19 from 6pm-10pm, the Second Section bands will be competing and there are 15 bands taking part: Annan Town, Bearpark & Esh Colliery, Brass Band B10, Brass Band du Hainaut, Brass Band Westfalen, Broxburn & Livingston, Chinnor Silver, Clackmannan District Brass, Fjell Brass, Gresley Colliery Brass, Ifton Colliery, Roughon Silver, Shrewton Silver, Ware Brass and Weston Brass.
On Saturday, February 20, from 1pm-10pm, the Fourth Section bands compete and there are 26 bands involved namely: Amington, Ashover Brass, Askam Town Silver Band & Friends, Blackley, Corby Silver, Crosskeys, Dronfield & Lowedges Community, Fakenham Town, Golborne Brass, Holmestrand Brass, Langley Community Brass, Loxley Silver, Manx Youth, Morecombe, Oakdale Silver, Royston Town, Shaftesbury Town Silver, Shanklin Town IOW, Simply Brass, Sotra Brass, Test Valley Brass, The Pangbourne Band, Twin Cities Brass, Wincanton Silver, Witney Town, Woodhouse Prize.
On Friday, February 26, from 6pm-10pm is the turn of the 14 University Bands to compete and they are: Bangor, King’s College London, Lancaster, Oakland, Warwick, Birmingham, Bristol, Huddersfield, Salford, Sheffield, York, Durham, Southampton and Cardiff.
Then on Saturday, February 27, from 1pm-10pm 22 First Section bands compete and they are Arkansas Musicworks Brass, Brunel Brass, BTM Brass, Chiltern Hills Brass, Coalburn Brass, Dallas Brass, Drogheda Brass, Dunaskin Doon, Freckleton Brass, Johnstone, Kingdom Brass, Langley, Lewis Merthyr, Lochgelly, Manx Concert Brass, Milton Keynes Brass, North Skelton, Pontardulais Town, Seindorf Arian Deiniolen, Stranbane Brass, Strata Brass, and Wotton-Under-Edge Silver.
Friday, March 5, from 6pm-9pm will see nine Youth Bands taking part in an online competition for the first time. Taking part are: Abbey Brass (Jedforest), BTM Next Generation, Burry Port Junior, Elland Silver Training, Elland Silver Youth, Gresley Colliery youth, Lions Youth Brass, M3 City of Cardiff,(Melingriffith), Seindorf Ieuenctid Beaumaris.
Then on Saturday, March 6, from 1pm-6pm, 18 Third Section bands will battle it out and they are:
Brilliante Brass, Cardiff North Lakes Brass, Darwen Brass,Gillingham Imperial Silver, Hawk Green, Ireland Colliery Chesterfield, Lakeland Brass, Langholm Town, Littleport Brass, Lostock Hall Memorial, Musikgesellschaft Brass Band Rehetobel, Navan Silver, Newhall, Seindorf Beaumaris, Towcester Studio, United Brass, Weymouth Concert Brass and Whitworth Vale & Healey.
Then followed by Part 1 of the Championship Section which will take place between 7pm-10pm.
Part 2 will take place on Sunday, March 7, from 5pm-10pm.
The 17 competing bands are: Aldbourne, Amersham, Burry Port Town, City of Cardiff (Melingriffith)M1, Dalmelllington, Easington Colliery, Enderby, Filton Concert, Friary Brass, Lydbrook, Lyngby-Taarbaek
Brass, Michelmersh Silver, Paris Brass, St Dennis, The GUS Band, Unison Kinneil and Whitburn. The results will be announced after the Championship Section.
The Welsh bands taking part are:
■ Fourth Section – Crosskeys and Oakdale Silver.
■ Third Section – Beaumaris Silver. In Second Section Ifton Colliery.
■ First Section – BTM, Lewis Merthyr, Pontardulais Town and Deiniolen Silver.
■ Championship Section – Burry Port Town and City of Cardiff (Melingriffith) M1.
Cardiff University will be in the University Section and BTM Next Generation, Burry Port Junior, M3 City of Cardiff (Melingriffith) and Beaumaris Youth will be in the Youth Section. Best wishes to them all!
