£26,400 lottery bonus for Foden’s thanks to Carole’s hard work
FODEN’S Band have announced that they have received £26,400 as a result of their application, by vice-president Carole Crompton, to the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Foden’s are very grateful to Carole as she has been successful in her applications both to the Heritage Lottery and to the Arts Council of England on five occasions over the last six years.
As well as being very involved with Foden’s as a top class baritone player she has assisted a number of bands in applying for such grants.
Carole started her banding career at Stourport and became a very good euphonium playing with the Langley Band in the 1970s.
She went on to Desford and while there established the baritone as a solo instrument. ment.
My memory of Carole is her beautiful ren- dering of The Swan n on euphonium and playing in the Langley quartet of Mike West, cornet, Gordon Higham, cornet and me on horn when we beat at the Jones & Crossland quartet at the local West Midlands Association Contest.
Jones & Crossland’s name reverted to Birmingham School of Music in 1979 and they came 3rd in the National Championships of Great Britain under musical director Roy R Curran to 1st place placed Black Dyke and 2nd placed Cory on the test-piece Volcano by Robert Simpson.
F Foden’s intend creating a museum of band artefact artefacts which will be open to the th public and which will offer the option of a unique ‘virtual’ tour.
A new work will be commissioned to celebrate the opening of the museum as well as launch a concert to an invited audience.
They will also undertake recording projects for the ‘heritage’ site www.fodensbandheritage. co.uk of previously unpublished works, install a piece of interactive public art in Sandbach complete with QR codes for visitors to learn more about the band’s history and allow 20 members of our youth organisations to take part in the nationally recognised Arts Award scheme.
To increase accessability to the project Foden’s will be working with a group of young people with hearing impairments to add sign language and subtitles to a number of new interactive videos.
