JOBS TO DO THIS WEEK

-

Unless frost is forecast there are a number of jobs you can get on with. Your pots and hanging baskets can go outside if you have been acclimatising in the last few weeks. If not, start to leave them out during the day so they can adjust gradually.

Further south, you can plant cannas and dahlias, pictured left, outside now and sow tender annuals outdoors too. It’s summer bedding time so if you fancy some colour, plant begonias, pelargoniums, lobelias and antirrhinums into your pots and beds. Keep horticultural fleece handy for cold nights.

Keep successional sowing of quick-to-crop veg such as salad, beetroot and radish.

Lightly hoe borders to remove weed seedlings.

Open vents and doors in glasshouses on warm days to improve air circulation.

Hang pheromone traps in apple trees to reduce codling moth damage to your fruit.
