Charity brews up cafe plans for nature reserve
A CHARITY hopes to open a cafe at Kenfig National Nature Reserve, located between Porthcawl and Neath Port Talbot.
Kenfig Corporation Trust, which owns the reserve, has submitted a planning application to Bridgend Council to alter an existing building on the site to make room for a cafe.
A planning statement reads: “Due to the minimum nature, the proposals have no impact on the heritage of the existing building or indeed the surrounding area. Indeed, they provide the ability for the nature reserve to be appreciated and respected.”
If approved, the cafe area would be extended onto the terraced area of the building.
The 1,300-acre reserve containins multiple species of plants, birds and animals – including the rare fen orchid.
It is also home to Kenfig Pool, south Wales’ largest natural lake at 70 acres.
Planning documents state the design of the new set-up includes wheelchair access and new windows and doors which match the existing ones.
There would be “minimal change” to the existing building, situated next to the entrance of the reserve, south of Kenfig Pool Holiday Caravan Park.
Officers from Bridgend council are set to discuss the plans before making a decison.
