HOLIDAYMAKERS are being urged to check their old travel photographs to solve the mystery of a missing dad who vanished on a Greek island.
John Tossell, 74, disappeared without a trace while walking around a monastery on the holiday island of Zante two years ago, leaving his family heartbroken.
It was the third day of John’s holiday when he went missing and a huge search was launched by Greek emergency services.
But two years later John has still not been found, despite rescue teams from Wales also flying out to scour the rugged mountains surrounding the monastery.
British holidaymakers who were in Zante at the time have been urged to check their photos from June 2019 to see if John might be in the background.
A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: “Despite searches by the Greek authorities, and later by a team from the Western Beacons Mountain Rescue, he has not been found.
“His family have appealed for anyone who may have been in the area to think about whether they saw John, who was wearing a royal blue shirt.
“They have also asked holidaymakers to scour their own photographs to check whether John was in the background of the shot.
“The investigation is being led by authorities in Greece, but if you have any information which you think may help, you can contact South Wales Police.”
John’s family previously offered a €10,000 reward in the hope that someone might come forward with information.
Daughter Katy has expressed fears John, of Bridgend, was taken by attackers – and was a victim of “foul play”.
She said: “It beggars belief he hasn’t been found. They just don’t think he’s on that mountain.
“If he’s fallen, he would have been found and he hasn’t. So it raises questions.
“Has someone taken him or has someone taken him and hid a body out of sight? You just can’t help but think these things because it beggars belief he hasn’t been found with the amount of effort that has been put in by the rescue teams.
“Foul play and third party involvement has to be considered.”
John failed to return to the hotel where he was staying with his partner Gillian on June 17, 2019, after the walk on Mount Skopos.
The “fit and intelligent” holidaymaker usually swam three times a week and walked miles with his dogs.
