● Cefn’s First Ever Florist To Open:

The grand opening of the village’s first ever floristry, based at Mount Pleasant farm shop, will be taking place this Saturday, June 26, from 10.30am.

Jo’s Flowers For All Occasions is a brand new, independen­t, local business being set up by a very experience­d and talented florist from the village, Joanne Cavill.

Jo is hoping you can join her for a glass of bubbly and slice of cake to celebrate the start of her new venture.

● Volunteers Wanted at Parc Slip Nature

Reserve: Do you want to volunteer in the nature reserve on our doorstep, make a difference in our community and gain a qualificat­ion?

Then join the new 10-week environmen­tal programme carrying out practical work throughout the reserve including: Constructi­on; Woodland Management; Growing Projects and Gardening.

All tools and training is provided as part of the project. Social distancing and Covid-19 safety measures will be in place.

The programme starts on Tuesday June 22, from 10am-2pm – meet outside the Visitor Centre.

Parc Slip Nature Reserve is managed by the charity the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales.

This new volunteeri­ng programme is supported by Bridgend County Borough Council and Welsh Government through the Valleys Regional Park initiative.

● Village Open Gardens Day:

Cefn Cribwr Gardening Club in conjunctio­n with the National Garden Scheme will be holding their Open Garden Day in the village on June 27, from 11am-5pm.

There will be some lovely village gardens open for you to visit, which will be listed on the NGS website at ngs.org.uk.

The Green Hall will be open for the purchase of entry tickets, toilet facilities, refreshmen­ts and sales of plants with a few more tables for the sale of local crafts.

A new attraction this year is that transport will be available to ferry visitors from garden to garden, courtesy of the local Tractor Club, who are providing three vehicles to transport passengers from the Three Horseshoes to Bedford Road, Tai Thorn and so on.

● New Pilates Class:

A new weekly Pilates class for complete beginners has started at Cefn’s Community Centre (the Green Hall) on Thursdays at 10.30am. The classes are open to everyone and help improve posture, muscle tone and flexibilit­y. Weekly Pilates classes are also held on Tuesday evenings from 6pm-7pm and from 7pm-8pm at the hall.
