Self-isolating causes delays with rubbish

-

SOME residents have faced delays in seeing their rubbish collected after around 15 workers had to self-isolate.

There have been delays to some collections in the Bridgend area after 15 members of Kier staff were instructed by Track and Trace to self-isolate.

Areas affected include Garth, Caerau, Nantyfyllon, Aberkenfig, Kenfig Hill, Sarn, Tondu and Cefn Cribbwr.

Bridgend council said residents who were expecting their rubbish to be collected on Monday or Tuesday last week were due a collection on Saturday, July 3, instead.

The workers were told to selfisolate because of potential exposure to a person who had tested positive for coronavirus.

Bridgend council said household collections should be taking place as normal but that there was a delay in picking up some recycling from communal collection points.

A spokesperson said: “Around 15 workers from Kier have been told to self-isolate after being contacted by the track and trace service. Kier have reorganised their resources internally to ensure that household recycling collections have been able to continue to take place as normal.

“There was a short delay in picking up recycling from communal collection points on estates, but this has since been completed and as of yesterday (Tuesday, June 29) is back on track.”
