More than 50 pupils told to isolate after positive test

-

MORE than 50 youngsters at a school have been told to isolate after a student tested positive for coronavirus.

Emails and tweets were sent to parents of Year 10 pupils at Maesteg School on Monday, after school officials were informed of the news.

Mums and dads were told: “We have had a positive case in the year 10. Please do not attend school today.”

Bridgend council has since confirmed the news and said that a total of 52 pupils had been affected.

Due to the outbreak, these students will not return to school for the remainder of the term. The council has assured however that the students will not miss lessons and online teaching will continue “until the end of term as normal”.

A spokesman said: “Following a positive Covid-19 case within Year 10 at Maesteg School, 52 other pupils have been identified as close contacts and are required to self-isolate for the remainder of term.

“As a result, the school has implemented online lessons to ensure that the pupils do not miss out on their learning, and parents, carers and guardians have been informed.”
